A poem by Shirley Thomas,
Dedicated to our Post Office and Village Store
"Our village shop is quite bijoux, a quaint
Aladdin’s cave,
And if you stepped inside the door you’d truly be amazed.
This tiny shop sells bread and cakes, chocs and sweets galore,
Sausage rolls and pasties, soft drinks, milk, eggs and more,
Cards for all occasions - they come for
miles to buy,
Pickles, marmalades, preserves you can’t
resist to try.
Stationery, toys and games and books for young
and old,
Pictures, maps and ice creams and potteries
are sold.
Sugar, tea and coffee, even cleaner for your
floor,
Headache pills and toilet rolls on the shelf
behind the door
And while you’re in there browsing you can
buy a stamp or two
Cash a cheque or draw your pension, yes,
a post office too
A little of old England, a tiny village store,
A friendly face, a cheery smile.
May it last forever more
